Here are some over heard conversations posted in the newspaper.
I’ve added my comments as well.
How would you respond to them

1.
Son: "I can't believe it - my dad joined Facebook."
Dad: "What's WTF?"
Son: "Welcome to Facebook."

Me: Nowadays, acronyms for swear words could be words of welcome.

2.
Son: "Both my parents had a sickie today."
Boy; "I wonder what they are doing home alone."

Me: Nowadays, adults are children, too.

3.
Girl to boyfriend on the bus: "I was looking at the reflection in the window and I saw this guy and thought he was cute. And then I realised it was you."

Me: Gochisousamadeshita. (= Yes, we all know you think he's wonderful.)

Here are some new phrase(s) that I have come across in daily life.

1. acquit (in a newspaper)
= formally declare not guilty of a criminal charge
2. dud (in a newspaper)
= an ineffectual person
3. dimple (in a newspaper)
= a small hollow place in the skin, especially in the cheek or chin
